After recently watching the Masterclass on interior decorating by world famous, award winning, LA based interior designer Kelly Wearstler, I wanted to write a quick insight into a woman who started and grew a self-named business and brand into the success it is today.
Take risks, have fun and love colour.
Kelly grew up in Mertyle beach in South Carolina. She studied interiors and architectural design in New York and Boston before moving to LA. Her idea was to work for an interiors company there but when a friend of a friend needed rooms decorated in Venice, Kelly took on the job! “Before I knew it, I had started my own practice,” she recalls.
Her company is now 25 years old and has worked on the San Francisco Proper Hotel, Four Seasons Anguilla, BG Restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman, the Viceroy Hotels and Residences, Tides Miami and custom residences for high-profile private clients. She’s written four books and been recognized in Accolades include Elle Décor’s A-List, Architectural Digest’s AD100, AD Spain Top International Designer, Wallpaper Magazine Top 20 Designers, Time Magazine The Design 100.
Collect things that inspire emotion.
She has engaged with many brands through collaboration starting with unique and ornamental household decorative items in Bergdorf Goodman (as mentioned in the Masterclass). Followed by an fabric line with Lee Jofa, a collection of floor coverings with The Rug Company, tiles with Ann Sacks, vessels with Georg Jensen (Danish brand), lighting with Visual Comfort, finished off by her own furniture and accessories.
